Doris Louise Wilson Buchanan, 78, of Brazoria died Feb. 26, 2023, in her home.

Funeral services were held at C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia on March 3. Visitation took place there on March 2.

A visitation also was held in Lampasas at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel on March 6.

Graveside services followed at Groves Cemetery in Lampasas.

Doris was born Jan. 29, 1944, to Woodrow Wilson and Easter Lilly Wilson in Lampasas.

She was a proud graduate of the Lampasas High School Class of 1962. From there, she went to Tarleton State University and then worked for Southwestern Bell in Houston.

Doris raced at the Alamo Drag Strip in San Antonio in the late 1960s and enjoyed saltwater fishing out of Corpus Christi.

She was one of the first women to become a chemical operator with Dow Chemical Co. in Freeport, where she worked from the Mag cells, Caustic and Chlorine blocks to the Tool room, Road and Bridges, Dow purchasing and finally retiring from Dow Central and Capital Receiving with 40-plus years of service.

After retirement, she loved spending time with family, neighbors, her dogs, Molly the donkey; growing and taking care of her plants; and gardening.

Doris was preceded in death by her brothers-inlaw Wade Buchanan, Barry Finch and Jackie Reid.

She is survived by her sons Jeff Heidaker of Lake Jackson and Kurt Buchanan of Brazoria; grandsons Collin Heidaker of Dallas and Nolan Heidaker of Lake Jackson; longtime partner, Roy Buchanan of Brazoria; half-sisters Pat Williams and Gail Wilson of Tennessee; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
