Mrs. Greene

Lucie Anne Barnard Greene, 85, died on July 19, 2024.

Visitation will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on July 30 from 10 a.m. until noon. A private graveside service will be conducted for the family at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen at 2 p.m., July 30.

Lucie was born on Dec. 20, 1938, in Oklahoma City, a greatly anticipated daughter of George and Anne Robinson Gaston.

She spent her childhood and teen years with her family in Mobile, Alabama, Miami, Florida, and in Kerrville, Houston and Freeport, Texas. She graduated from Brazosport High School and then attended Baylor University.

A 50-year resident of Lampasas, Lucie taught kindergarten at First Baptist Church Preschool in Lampasas for more than 30 years, helping to shape countless children’s lives. She taught with energetic joy and enjoyed keeping up with the families and friends she loved.

Sustained by her strong faith in God, Lucie lived with a positive spirit of encouragement through good times and times of suffering. Family gatherings and holidays were always great occasions with wonderful meals. Her children and grandchildren were beneficiaries of a focused love they will cherish. Along the way, her iPhone and Facebook became indispensable tools for staying in touch with loved ones.

Over the past 38 years, Lucie and her husband, Bill Greene, shared a mutual passion for family, travel and nature’s beauty. One of life’s good gifts has been the enjoyment of their backyard, sitting on the deck under the oak trees and watching the wildlife that appeared.

She was preceded in death by her son, Mark David Barnard; her first husband, Michael Upton Barnard; her brother, John Gaston; and a granddaughter, Alexis Barnard.

Lucie is survived by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Andrea Barnard Pelczar, and husband, Johnny; a brother, George Gaston, and wife, Susan; 17 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; numerous cousins; a niece and three nephews; and several other relatives.
