Shirley A. Beyer, 80, died on July 28, 2024 at her home in Lampasas.
Funeral services were held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel on Aug. 1. Burial at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will be private.
Shirley was born on March 2, 1944, in Quincy, Illinois to Clarence and Edith (Bangert) Lawber. She grew up in Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School in 1962.
After high school, Shirley joined the U.S. Air Force in 1962 and served for more than two years. She was discharged in 1965, achieving the rank of airman second class.
During her lifetime she traveled to numerous locations as a military spouse, including Washington, D.C., Oslo, Norway, and finally, Millstadt, Illinois.
She attended Belleville Area College in Belleville, Illinois, where she received an associate degree in accounting. She worked many years in various bookkeeping and accounting jobs before working for Defense Finance and Accounting Service as a payroll specialist until she retired in 1999.
Shirley was involved in numerous clubs such as Killeen Kickers Square Dance, Lampasas Extension, Lampasas Senior Center Quilters, Lometa Quilters, Herb Society, Texas First Conservative Alliance and Women on Mission.
Shirley married Albin in 1964 in Quincy, Illinois.
She was a member of Hill Country Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed square dancing, quilting and cross-stitching. She also received many ribbons for her quilts, wall-hangings, cross-stitch and pickles at the Lampasas County Fair during Spring Ho. She was known for her warm smile, kind spirit and willingness to get involved.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Albin.
She is survived by her son, Tony (Gabrielle) Beyer of Dayton, Ohio; her daughter, Angie Beyer of Maryville, Illinois; a sister, Patricia Lawber of Quincy, Illinois; grandchildren Miguel (Joanna) Beyer, AJ (Megan) Petrowich, Sarah (Kyle) Butts and Clay Allen; great-grandchildren Eisley, Kip, Rowan, Brooklynn, Emerson, Simon and Easton; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
