Georgena Joy Bayer, 91, died in Georgetown on March 7, 2024.

Funeral services will be held March 16 at 2 p.m. at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas, with visitation an hour prior.

Interment will follow at Watson Cemetery in Burnet County.

Mrs. Bayer was born on May 24, 1932, in Fredericksburg to Martha Roos Schulze and George H. Schulze.

She grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in January 1950.

She attended the University of Texas and worked for the Texas Highway Department until her marriage to William T. Bayer Jr. on Sept. 29, 1951. They were married for 58½ years.

She raised three sons and lived all over the U.S. and in Ireland. They moved back to Texas in December of 1989.

In her earlier days, Mrs. Bayer did volunteer work in hospitals and nursing homes, was a Cub Scout leader and helped with the Boy Scouts. She enjoyed photography, tennis, water and snow skiing. She loved running her ranch and especially her tractor. She had a zest for life and attacked every situation with 110% effort.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her son William T. Bayer Jr.; and her sister, Kathleen Schulze Hodges.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Elaine Bayer; sons Charles Lee Bayer and wife Vicki, and Kenneth Glen Bayer and wife Maria; and seven grandchildren, Brittany Tholstrup (husband Sean), Mitchell Bayer (wife Danielle, sons Braesyn and Brady), Kyle Bayer (wife Alli), Eric Bayer (wife Rhiannon), Caitlyn Bayer (husband David Walker), Cole Bayer, and Kelsey Bayer.
