Mr. Gilstrap

Drexel Dee Gilstrap was born Sept. 3, 1958 to Faye Elizabeth (Lee) Gilstrap and Walter Dee Gilstrap Sr of Lampasas.

He died April 18, 2023 in El Paso.

Drexel is survived by his wife, Donna Gilstrap; daughter, Tawnya (Gilstrap) Branscum; sons Drexel Gilstrap Jr. and Dalton Gilstrap; two brothers, Walter Dee Gilstrap Jr. of Abilene and Kelley Dee Gilstrap of Angleton; three grandchildren, Gaven Branscum, Garit Branscum and Landon Gilstrap; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Walter D. Gilstrap Sr., Faye Elizabeth (Lee) Gilstrap, and sister Donna Faye Gilstrap.

Drexel grew up in Lampasas and attended Lampasas High School. He joined the United States Army in 1975, serving with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

After finishing his military career, Drexel went on various adventures before becoming a nurse and working at Abilene Regional Hospital as an Emergency Room trauma nurse.

Drexel, Donna and Dalton moved to Pecos in 2009, after his retirement from nursing.

Drexel was associated with the NRA, Wounded Warriors Projects and St. Jude. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing and camping.

Viewing will be held at 5 p.m. April 21 at the Morehart Mortuary in Albany, Texas.

Funeral services will be held April 22 at 11 a.m. at 8603 U.S. Highway 283 in Albany.
