Raleigh Edmond Denison, Jr. was born in Alpine, Texas to Carolyn Louise “Dimple” Fox and R.E. Denison, Sr. on June 15, 1935, the first of 3 children. The family lived for a brief time in the Chisos Mountains in West Texas where Raleigh Sr., a veteran of the Korean war, built roads which later became part of Big Bend National Park.
