Hostess House on tap at special workshop

The Lampasas City Council discussed updates to the Hostess House renovation project in a meeting Monday evening and scheduled a session to hash out aspects of several major projects. During a workshop prior to the regular session, council members and city staff agreed to set a workshop for May 19 from 4-6 p.m.

EARLY VOTING Early voting continues through Tuesday for the May 7 elections. On ballots are the Lampasas and Lometa city council races, the Lampasas school board races and two statewide constitutional amendments.

An April 19 story about the Lampasas school district’s consideration of tax incentives for a solar farm project listed an incorrect date for the next school board meeting. The trustees will meet May 2 at 6 p.m.

Farmers’ market returns to the square

In early April, more than 400 eager shoppers made their way to the downtown courthouse square for the 2022 opening of the weekly farmers’ market. Among those shoppers were Copperas Cove residents Adam and Mary Courtright. The elderly couple said they have been coming to the outdoor market since 2019.

Constables officially take office

Bond for two constables was approved Monday morning by the Lampasas County Commissioners Court. In March, the Commissioners Court appointed Bob Montgomery to fill the Precinct 1 constable position, previously held by Dennis James, and Mandy Esparza to fill the vacant Precinct 4 constable position.

‘It can happen to you’: Child advocates discuss experience with abuse

Lampasas County child abuses cases continue to increase, but officials and surviving families believe the issue can be mitigated with local services focused on education and awareness. Haylee Brewer was no stranger to child abuse cases due to her nine years on the Lampasas County Child Welfare Board and her two terms as board vice president, but she saw a new side of things when her daughter became an abuse survivor in 2020.
