Badger basketball plays in first summer action

Last week was the beginning of the summer league for the Lampasas basketball team.The boys traveled to Hamilton on Monday for games against Hamilton and Clifton, and then they traveled to Georgetown on Thursday for games against split squads for Chaparral and Harker Heights.

On the first Saturday in June each year anyone can fish recreationally without a license or endorsements. This opportunity is offered by Texas Parks & Wildlife Department so more people can try fishing for the first time and enjoy the time outdoors.

Four local athletes compete in FCA games

Every year, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes puts on its Victory Bowl games. Competition is offered for football, basketball, baseball, softball, cheer and volleyball.This year, four local athletes -- two from Lometa and two from Lampasas – were selected to participate in these games.

Lampasas Fish Day open to those ages 16 and younger

The city of Lampasas will hold its Kid Fish Day June 5-6 at W.M. Brook Park.Registration opens at 5 p.m. Friday, and the fishing derby begins at 6 p.m. Fishing will end at noon Saturday, and prizes will be awarded.

More camps take place as summer continues

Last week, three more youth camps took place at the high school. Softball, boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball all hosted incoming first-graders through incoming freshmen for a couple of days each.

Both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have full schedules for this month, as the summer basketball games are set. The boys are traveling to two different locations to play, while the Lampasas girls will play at home.The boys’ team is scheduled to travel to Hamilton each Monday in June.

Lowest score in five years wins memorial tournament

Saturday through Monday marked the 74th Annual A.C. January Memorial Golf Tournament at Hancock Park Golf Course. Tournament champion Cody Price ran away with the competition, as he won the Championship Flight with a three-day score of 65-64-68-197.

Young softball players from incoming sixth-graders to incoming freshmen finished their second day of camp at the high school field on Tuesday afternoon. Over the two days this week, the girls practiced every aspect of the game from hitting, fielding, baserunning and more.
