Judith Mary Allen Salerno, 81, died in Lampasas on Aug. 24, 2023.
She was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on Dec. 20, 1941, to Walter R. Allen and Patricia Farrell Allen.
She is survived by Charles S. Salerno, her husband of 59 years; her children Elizabeth James (Dennis), Kimberley Nelle (Tim) and Allen Salerno; grandchildren Meghan James, Ashley Lavin (Kyle), Kristen Murphy (Michael), David Nelle, Rebekah James and Brian Nelle, and greatgrandsons Mason Lavin and Finnian Murphy. Judy is also survived by her sister, Betsy Mantheiy; brothers John F. Allen (Neris) and Peter L. Allen (Tracy); sisters-in-law Marilyn Dietrich and Betty Jo Boatman; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Allen de la Torre.
A graduate of Dominican College in Houston, and a registered nurse, Judy initially worked in public health in Houston, and then as a school nurse for the Austin Independent School District.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lampasas and was a community and church volunteer throughout her life as well as an avid reader, nature lover and traveler.
Visitation will be held on Sept. 2 from 1-2:30 p.m. at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. A short service will be held at 2 p.m., followed by a burial service at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lampasas Public Library.
