Mrs. Millican

Betty Northington Millican died on July 21, 2022 in Lampasas.

A graveside service was held at Oak Hill Cemetery on July 25, with visitation afterward. Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel had charge of arrangements.

She was born Aug. 29, 1926 in Lampasas to Rucker Lee Northington and Elizabeth Bailey Northington.

Betty grew up in Lampasas and attended Lampasas schools. She graduated in 1944 and after high school, she attended Southwestern University in Georgetown.

Betty was a homemaker most of her life. She worked in a doctor’s office in Lubbock for a while and when she moved back to Lampasas, she was office manager for the Park Motel and then worked at the Lampasas Dispatch Record, where she managed Record Office Supply.

Betty was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Lampasas and served on many committees. She will best be remembered for being in charge of the bereavement dinners for church members. She enjoyed working in the kitchen at the church.

In 1951, Betty married Harry P. Millican in Lampasas, and they were married for 30 years.

Betty and Harry moved to Lubbock and made it their home until 1977, when they moved back to Lampasas. In 1961, they welcomed a son, David Millican.

In 1991, Betty set out to find a location for the annual Millican family reunion. She found a place on Lake Brownwood, where the family has gathered every year since.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; and by two sisters, Dell Northington Berry and Sarah Northington Fox.

She is survived by her son, David Millican, and wife Susan of Lampasas; grandsons Vann Millican and Bailey Millican of Lampasas; stepchildren Sharon Millican Flewharty and John of Denton, Sabra Millican Woody Ortiz of Lubbock, and Harry E. Millican and Betty of Lubbock; six grandchildren, 11 greatgrandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
