Bertha E. Gilbert, 86, of Lometa died at AdventHealth Rollins Brook hospital on Aug. 19, 2022. Mrs. Gilbert had lived in Lometa for the past 50-plus years, moving there from Merkel.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1935, in Merkel, to Gaither and Eunice (Beard) Isenburg.

She and Delmer Ray Gilbert were married in 1952 in Abilene.

Bertha had worked at several places in Lampasas, including the Lampasas ISD school cafeteria, Gibson’s Department Store, JJ’s Deli Mart, Dairy Queen and Kay’s Barbeque, as well as at the Kiddy Corner Daycare in Lometa.

Her hobbies were softball, arts and crafts, shopping, watching the Hallmark Channel, off-color jokes and being a grandmother, great- and great-great grandmother.

Bertha’s survivors include her daughter, Ginger Currier and husband Mike of Abilene; one sister, Jodie Hobbs of Lometa; one daughter-in-law, Jeanie Gilbert Brooks of Canton; grandchildren Justin Dunlap (Kari), Crystal Hawkey (Tye), LaDonya Gray, Brandy Pearson, Tonie Farmer, Kim Williams (Tim), Delmer Armentrout (Becca), Jody Armentrout (Jennifer), Marcus Armentrout, Cody Taylor, Misty Maldonado (Mario) and Bodie Gilbert (Mark); 30 greatgrandchildren and 18 greatgreat- grandchildren. Preceding Bertha in death were her husband; son, Ronnie Gilbert; daughter, Karen Taylor; six brothers and one sister.

Visitation was held Aug. 22 at Heritage Funeral Home in Lampasas.

A graveside service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 23 at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa, with Rodney Andrews officiating.
