Mabel Lee Clayton, 78, of Lampasas died on Nov. 13, 2021, at AdventHealth Rollins Brook in Lampasas.
Mabel was born on Jan. 2, 1943, in Magoffin County, Kentucky to Tommy Green and Tressie Rowe Green.
She had lived in Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia Beach, North Carolina and spent two tours of duty in Germany with her husband before settling in Lampasas.
She and Robert L. Clayton were married on Dec. 9, 1964, in Shelby, Ohio, after having known each other for two weeks. They were married 50 years before his death in 2014.
Mabel was a nurse and homemaker. She loved cooking, especially baking, and gardening. She retired from nursing in 1995.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lampasas.
She is survived by three sons, Nick and Janet Clayton of Lampasas, Mike and Shannon Strimple of Dickinson, and Duane and Lisa Strimple of Winchester, Kentucky; one daughter, Debbie Jo Strimple of Winchester; her fiance, Jerry Livingston of Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Kendra, Latisha, Megan, Kaylee, Ashley, Victoria and John Paul; and by six great-grandchildren, Carolina, Brittany, Zander, Mac, Kemry and Easton.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Maureen Green; one son, William Clayton; and one grandchild, Hunter.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Heritage Funeral Home in Lampasas, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Nov. 17 at St. Mary Catholic Church, officiated by Father Boni. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
