Ken was born on Oct. 18, 1957 to Jerry and Pat Mowell of Snyder. His family moved to Brownfield when he was 5 years old. Ken completed grades one through 12 in Brownfield public schools.

He earned his bachelor's degree in music education from West Texas State University in Canyon.

Ken received an invitation to The Royal School of Church Music in London to dedicate himself to the promotion of music and conducting Christian worship.

He earned his master's degree in organ performance and completed the coursework in religious studies toward his Ph.D. from Southern Methodist University.

Ken began his career at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Amarillo. From there, he became the minister of music for First United Methodist Church in Killeen. Ken then spent many years at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Temple, and he ended his career at First Presbyterian Church in Lampasas.

In addition to his ministry work, Ken was an adjunct professor of organ music at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

His passion for organ music led him to build his own pipe organ. After perfecting his craft, he partnered with Viscount and began his new business as Viscount Organs of Central Texas.

Ken was passionate about the Lord and music of many types. He had diverse interests, which included nature – especially being in the mountains of Ruidoso. He enjoyed boating, golfing, floral design, photography, woodworking and playing practical jokes.

Animals of all types were at the top of his list of passions. The bond he shared with Chester and his sidekicks, Katie and Sis, was a special one. Perhaps the most powerful bond was with the donkey Zebo A. Burro.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Mowell.

Survivors include his mother, Pat Mowell of Brownfield; his wife, Marcia; children Ryan Mowell of Lampasas, and Leanne and Tim Drell of Lampasas; grandson Jace Liam Drell; his sister, Janet Spencer, and her children of Brownfield; father-in-law, Bill Wadsworth, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Buzz and Carol Wadsworth, all of Massachusetts; and many cousins. Donations may be made in Ken's name to the Lampasas Animal Shelter, 301 College St., Lampasas, TX, 76550.
