Mr. Moran

Richard Carl “Dick” Moran, 92, died on Aug. 26, 2023, at Lampasas Assisted Living after a long battle with lung disease.

A private memorial service and interment at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen will be held at a later date. Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Dick was born on April 2, 1931, in Burlington, Vermont to Joseph S. “Pete” and Alma Butler Moran.

He graduated from Edmund’s High School in Burlington in 1950. After high school, Dick went to business college in Burlington.

He joined the Army and received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged in 1954 as a sergeant first class.

Dick spent most of his career as an analyst for the U.S. Treasury Department with the IRS for over 30 years, receiving the Albert Gallatin Award – the Treasury’s highest career service award.

Dick also was a published writer. He especially enjoyed writing poems. He was a member of the Edmund’s High School Alumni Organization. He loved the New York Yankees and knew detailed statistics of them. He was a big lover of dogs.

Dick married June Axton in 1966 in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. They were married 52 years before she died in 2018. He moved to Lampasas after June’s death to live near family.

In addition to his wife, Dick was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence N. Moran in 2007, and his daughter, Lorraine Moran Bosley in 2017.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Suzanne D. Moran (Robert) Baxter of Lampasas; a daughterin-law, Sandra Duplantie Moran of Johnson, Vermont; several grandchildren, including Katherine A. Baxter of Lampasas, and Rebecca Baxter (John) Wisecup of Newport, Rhode Island. Dick also had many great-grandchildren but will be especially missed by Chet Harrison of Lampasas, and Lizzie Wisecup of Newport, Rhode Island.
