John Maldonado Jr., 51, a lifelong resident of Lampasas, died at AdventHealth Central Texas hospital in Killeen on July 5, 2022.
He was born on Jan. 5, 1971, in Lampasas. He graduated from Lampasas High School where he was an athlete.
He enjoyed a simple life and making people laugh with his smile and humor. His favorite things included fishing, camping and driving the Central Texas backroads enjoying the scenery with a cold Dr Pepper.
He adored his family and grandchildren and let them know this by his daily 6 a.m. wake-up calls followed by many more throughout the day.
He is survived by his parents, Maria and Allan Sunberg of Lampasas; his father, John Maldonado Sr. of Lampasas; lifelong friend and companion Celette Salazar; two sons, Jared Payne and wife Taylor of Lampasas, and Anthony Salazar of Hutto; two daughters, Allyssa Maldonado, and Zayne Maldonado and fiancé Gabe Brown of Lampasas; three brothers, Adam Sunberg and wife Angie of Lampasas, Darryl Sunberg of Paris, France and Fonzie Valdez of Texas; two sisters, Melissa Sunberg and fiancé Pat, and April Hall and husband Brandon of Lampasas; two grandchildren, Brayden Tiscarneo and Zara Roque; and numerous other relatives.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. July 15 at Heritage Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. July 16, also at Heritage Funeral Home, followed by burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas. A livestream of the service will be available at heritagefuneraltx.com under Mr. Maldonado's name.
