Vernon Monroe Lindsey, 94, died on May 26, 2021 at his home in Lampasas.
Visitation was held May 31 at Sneed Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services were June 1, also at Sneed Funeral Chapel, with interment at Smith Cemetery in Kempner.
Vernon was born on July 29, 1926 to James Monroe and Annah Mae Bell Lindsey.
He joined the Navy and served from Oct. 6, 1944 until June 6, 1946 during World War II.
Once out of the Navy, Vernon went to work at a ranch in McCamey, Texas, and then to a boot and saddle shop in McCamey. After that, he went to Houston to work in the oil patch.
Around 1957-58, he worked at Pop Tittle's station.
After that, Vernon worked at Lookout Bluff Ranch and then on the Goodrich Ranch as foreman from 1961-62. Later he got started in the construction business, where he was a blade operator until he retired.
Vernon married Loretta Tittle Jones in 1957 in Lampasas. They were married for 63 years.
Vernon enjoyed the outdoors and all things country: fishing, camping, country-western dancing with Loretta, "pickin’ & grinnin' " with friends, playing golf, gardening and playing with his grandbabies.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Lavern Browning, Joyce Havens and LoeNell Davis; brothers-in-law George Ray, G.A. Webb and Sturgis Jackson; a daughter, Lisa Lindsey Bonnett; and his daughter-in-law, Janie Lindsey.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta of Lampasas; son, Alvin Ray Lindsey of Lampasas; daughter, Tammie Lea Lindsey of Lampasas; son-in-law, Gary Bonnett of Marble Falls; brothers Kenneth (Joyce) Lindsey of Fort Worth, and Albert (Nancy) Lindsey of Lampasas; sisters Margie Ray of Elgin, Ann Barczi Greene of Lampasas, and Joanna Lindsey Jackson and Doris Webb, both of Mentor, Ohio; grandchildren Meloni (Walker) Stendebach, Bobby (Angelica) Clopton, Jessica Bonnett, Trey (Laura) Clopton, Cassie (Cody) Payne, Michelle (Carlos) Galvan, Erica (Rocky) Nastasi, Cody (Megan) Bolt, Joshua (Nicole) Bolt and Hyatt (Torye) Bolt; great-grandchildren Addie, Rylee, Jaxon, Morgan, Brynlee, Logan, Caleb, Callan, Connor, Leanna, Annalee, Janie, Isaiah, Luke, Caleb, Triston, Breighanna, Noah, Joseph, Zane, Joel and Faith; a great-great-granddaughter, Raiyah Leigh Clopton; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
