Mr. Detrick

Leslie Ronald Detrick, 84, of Lampasas died on Nov. 16, 2023, at his home.

He was born on Aug. 20, 1939, in Portola, California to the late Leslie Wilford Detrick and Lillie Inez (Mason) Detrick.

Les grew up in both California and Texas. He graduated from Clyde (Texas) High School in 1957.

He attended McMurry University in Abilene before joining the United States Air Force. He served his country between 1959 and 1963.

He received his associate degree from Taft Community College in California.

Les worked for Standard/ Chevron Oil Company in California and Alaska for 31 years, retiring as an electrical inspector in 1993.

He married Kay Jackilene Garoutte on Jan. 5, 1964. They shared almost 60 years together before his death.

Les was a voracious reader with almost encyclopedic recall of plot lines and characters. In addition to being an avid fisherman and gentleman farmer in his retirement, he was a home brew master and home renovator.

Les is survived by his wife, Kay; his children Charles (Margie) Detrick of Austin, Cathrine Detrick Chambers of Burnet and Elizabeth (Jason) Browder of Bakersfield, California; grandchildren Shawn Chambers of Kyle, Megan Chambers of Atlanta, Georgia, Tom (Rebecca) Barton of Austin, and Kate (Aaron) McCorcle of Leander; greatgrandchildren Jackson Barton, June Barton and Ethan McCorcle; his sister, Susan Detrick of Lampasas, and brother, Bill (Linda) Detrick of Josephine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2024.
