Harold Gene Butts, 87, died on Dec. 22, 2021, at his home in Lampasas.
A graveside service was held at Oak Hill Cemetery on Dec. 26.
Harold was born on April 28, 1934 in Lampasas to Dick and Claudia Buchanan Butts.
He grew up in Lampasas and began working for Rondie Welch at Lampasas Motor Company as a service station attendant at the age of 16. He continued working for Rondie Welch Equipment Sales for another 30 years.
He later joined the sales team at Hoffpauir Chevrolet, where he worked until he retired at age 72.
Harold married Nelda Munday in 1955 in Lampasas, and they were married for 66 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and was a magnet for pets and grandkids. Harold enjoyed camping, fishing and boating, and was well known for his woodworking skills.
One of his late-in-life endeavors was making crosses and giving them away to people who needed a blessing. He gifted people in nursing homes, hospitals and rehabilitation centers, to name a few places he shared his talent.
Harold was preceded in death by his brothers Townsend, Bill and Charlie, and by his sister, Inez Wolverton.
He is survived by his wife, Nelda Butts of Lampasas; his sons Robert Butts, Clifford (Jana) Butts, Jerry Don (Jan) Butts and David (Sandy) Butts, and a daughter, Sherrie (Brett) Berry, all of Lampasas; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family requested memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church Preschool in Lampasas.
