Charles Dean “Charlie” Barker, a longtime resident of Lampasas and Lampasas County, died Oct. 16, 2021 in Llano.
Charles was born on Sept. 6, 1941 to George Barker Jr. and Fannie Lorene Klose Barker. He graduated from Lampasas High School in 1960.
His employment endeavors included working alongside his parents at Barker's Feed Mill. Charles also worked for and retired from the Texas Highway Department in Lampasas.
In addition, Charles was a real estate agent and broker, loved farming and ranching, raising horses, and raised some of his own racehorses.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Fannie Ruth Swafford; grandson, Bo Pitts; and grandson-in-law, Mark Rogers.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 20 years, Barbara; children Randy (Debra) Barker of Abilene, Cindy Allen of Hutto, Joe (Jeannette) Benitz, Bobby (Czaja) Benitz, Danny (Jessica) Benitz, Joseph Taylor Benitz, Donna (Michael) Elliott and Brenda Pitts; grandchildren Jennifer Rogers of Abilene, Ryan Barker of Houston, Brandi Hickman (Ryan) of Hutto and Barbara's 14 grandchildren; greatgrandchildren Haelyn, Hope and Hunter Rogers of Abilene, and Barbara's three great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Burton of Burnet; a niece, numerous nephews and cousins, and other family members.
Visitation took place on Oct. 20 at Sneed Funeral Chapel.
Services were Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at San Saba Baptist Church. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
