JOHN QUINTON OAKLEY

John Quinton Oakley, known as “Big John” amongst family and close friends, died peacefully after a brief illness with family at his side on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the age of 90. John was born on August 25, 1930, to John Tee and Grace Jones Oakley in Lake Victor, Burnet County, Texas.

His parents and his beloved step-daughter, Charlott Jo Crumley, precede him in death.

He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Bettie Jo (Boggus) Oakley of San Marcos; step-daughter, Sarah Gregg and husband Derald of Seguin; granddaughter, Audry Mahan of Temple; grandsons, Stacy Crumley and wife Beverly of Driftwood, Jon Crumley and wife Tammy of San Marcos, Reagan Crumley and wife Alicia of Zorn, and Robert Crumley and wife Kami of San Marcos, 8 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grand-children with one more on the way; one sister, Dorothy Lee Martin and husband JT of Lampasas and son-in-law, Neal Crumley; and numerous other family members and close friends.

The family would like to thank the members of Holland Street Church of Christ, with special thanks to Hugh and Diane Cliett and Lin Penland for their assistance and support. The family would also like to thank Keith Morgan, longtime neighbor and friend of John and Bettie, for all the love and care he has shown for them over the last 40 years.

A visitation was held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 10:00 am – 11:00 a.m. at Holland Street Church of Christ, 205 E. Holland Street, San Marcos, Texas 78666. Services began at 11:00 a.m. Burial was at 3:00 p.m. in Dobyville Cemetery, US 281, Lampasas, Texas.
