Orr plea hearing postponed on felony burglary charge

A Georgia man’s plea hearing in a Lampasas County felony case was postponed last week due to medical issues, court officials said. Michael Marzart Orr, 29, of Savannah, Georgia, was set for a plea hearing May 13 in the 27 th District Court, but he was unable to attend due to “medical issues out of state,” District Attorney John Greenwood said.

Lampasas recognizes National Police Week

It is “National Police Week” across the United States, offering an opportunity for officers to be celebrated and recognized for their service. The last few years have been difficult on law enforcement, Lampasas Interim Police Chief Jody Cummings told the Dispatch Record.

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Lee Anthony Garcia of Copperas Cove waived arraignment and entered a plea of guilty to a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Future city zoning regulation changes possible

City Secretary Becky Sims opened a council discussion on potential “comprehensive updates” to zoning regulations. After presenting suggestions about building height regulations to the Lampasas Planning and Zoning Commission during a May 5 meeting, Sims said she also was seeking feedback from the Lampasas City Council.

Lunar eclipse makes appearance in Lampasas

A lunar eclipse was visible in Lampasas County skies on Sunday evening. The 90-minute event could be seen across much of the Earth, best from the Americas and western Africa. A total solar eclipse will be observed in April 2024. VERONICA BUTLER
