The Kempner Water Supply Corporation issued a text to customers at 8:59 a.m. this morning warning of temporary water restrictions for essential use only due to a leak on a 24-inch main line.

The leak between State Highway 195 and the Ivy Mountain distribution tank feeds the entire system, KWSC General Manager Bruce Sorenson says.

In an alert to customers, the KWSC notes water usage should be limited to drinking, cooking, personal hygiene, and livestock until restrictions are removed. Sorenson expects the repair to take 48 hours. The leak is located within the Fort Cavazos boundary about 8 feet underneath the ground. KWSC crews are currently working at the site to locate the leak.

“We have identified it and know it is a pretty good leak. It is a leak we think we have been looking for a long time," Sorenson said.

KWSC and Lampasas water customers will be running on water within storage tanks as the KWSC conducts this repair. The storage supply will last 48 hours under normal use, but with conservation efforts, Sorenson says the supply can last longer.

The KWSC will provide alerts on any update on its website at kempnerwsc.com. For any questions, contact the KWSC at (512) 932-3701.
