Hostess House project goes to bid

Lampasas City Council is scheduled to consider bids for rehabilitation of the historic Hostess House on Tuesday after the bidding period was extended last week. Lampasas City Manager Finley deGraffenried said the extension was granted due to struggles faced by contractors affected by the ice storm in mid-February.

The Lampasas County Museum will offer guest musical performances in conjunction with its newest exhibit “And the Beat Goes On.” On Saturday, saxophonist Dave Hausmann will play at 1 p.m., followed by the all-male, a capella group Hims of Praise at 2 p.m. The concerts are free of charge at 303 S.

March 2 will mark the 187th birthday of Texas’ independence from Mexico. On this day in 1936, a formal document was signed by 59 delegates who represented each of the Texian settlements. This important declaration officially declared our independence and created the Republic of Texas.

HPU highlights Sumners Scholars at recent event

Howard Payne University recently hosted the Sumners Social for prospective and current students, with nearly 60 attendees present. HPU Sumners Scholars shared the opportunities of the program over free hot chocolate and s’mores. The event was held in conjunction with the HPU’s Office of Admissions as a part of a student preview day.
