Crop report notes soil moisture is critical for Central Texas

When it comes to soil moisture, Texas agriculture is divided into “haves” and “have-nots,” according to the latest Texas Crop and Weather Report from Agri-Life Extension Service. Many farmers with irrigation have been watering planted crops to help seed germination and prewatering fields to improve soil moisture before planting.

Grass fire burns near U.S. 281

Body
A six-acre grass fire during high winds on Wednesday required the assistance of the Texas Forestry Service before it could be extinguished. The fire was just outside Lampasas County on U.S. Highway 281 South.

Home fire caused by embers from fireplace

First responders were able to save the majority of a Kempner house after embers ignited the structure Sunday afternoon. Kempner Volunteer Fire Department responded to a single-story home in the 600 block of County Road 3365 at about 1:54 p.m.

DPS reaches peak for ‘Most Wanted’ captures

The Texas Department of Public Safety has announced that 2022 saw the highest number of Most Wanted Offenders captured in a single year since the program’s inception in 1993. Last year, DPS in cooperation with state, federal, local and Mexican authorities captured a record 72 fugitives and sex offenders.

Skateboarding park now ready for use

Construction of the Lampasas Skate Park was completed last week. City officials reported that the park opened on March 13, and an official ceremony at the facility would be scheduled at a future date.
