36 Club fundraisers benefit community

The 36 Club, a local chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC) of Texas, is working hard to raise funds for special Lampasas community projects. In April, club members sold barbecue chicken halves that were cooked by members’ husbands in their smokehouse parked at the First Presbyterian Church parking lot.

Thunderstorms on the horizon

This photo was taken Wednesday evening as storm clouds rolled into the area. The National Weather Service had issued a tornado watch late that afternoon for Lampasas, Coryell and Bell counties, but the more turbulent conditions moved elsewhere. Lampasas has a slight chance of thunderstorms this Thursday and Friday as well.

Kempner resident critically injured Friday in FM 2808 wreck

A two-car collision at the intersection of FM 2808 and County Road 4700 sent an elderly man to the hospital Friday morning. The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office, Kempner Volunteer Fire Department, Hamilton EMS and Texas Department of Public Safety all reported to the scene.

Superintendent encourages Lometa voters to head to polls

Lometa ISD’s push for a new bond had one final step before election day, with Superintendent Rob Moore addressing the community via Facebook live last Monday night to review the details. A proposed $1.75 million bond would help the Lometa school district construct a new technical education complex.

Riata Roundup Rodeo action over the weekend was fast and furious. Although stormy weather had threatened to put a damper on the activities, the heavy rain moved elsewhere, and Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce officials said the rodeo and barbecue events enjoyed a good turnout. Results will run in an upcoming edition of the Dispatch Record.

Senior accomplishments celebrated

Lampasas High School Class of 2023 students and their families gathered in the school cafeteria Wednesday for Awards Night presentations. Principal Joey McQuen, left, and Assistant Principal Ryan Race present a letter blanket to Senior Class President Ciara Carnes, who ranks in the top 10 percent of her class. A full listing of honors and awards will appear in the special graduation edition on May 19.
