Isolation, stress affect mental well-being of farmers, ranchers

Ranchers and farmers need to know they are not alone. To those ranchers, farmers and working cowboys who have struggled with feelings of hopelessness, sadness, depression or anxiety, you are not the only one who is hurting. Data by the Centers for Disease Control shows that those whose livelihoods are entirely dependent upon farming and ranching are the most likely to die by suicide, compared to any other occupation. And in a 20-year study, researchers found that suicide rates overall have increased by 40%.

Council OKs rezoning of Northington Creek Estates

In a divided vote, the Lampasas City Council approved the rezoning of a proposed multi-acre development in the northeast quadrant of the city. During a meeting last week, the council held a public hearing on the request to rezone just under 80 acres of land within the John Burleson Survey that sits at 1206 Mill St.

Kempner man charged with murder

A Kempner man was arrested on a murder charge after a fatal shooting on Friday. Michael Oran Woods, 43, was arrested at a home in the 1500 block of County Road 3340 where police said he admitted to shooting his friend from behind.

Chamber Music Festival set at several venues June 1-4
