Emergency responders were alerted about a house fire Wednesday afternoon at the corner of West First Street and Race Street. Fire Marshal Bart Baker is continuing his investigation. More information about the fire and another photo are inside on page 13.

Houston Livestock Show awards record-setting scholarship totals

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials have announced that 529 Texas students will receive $20,000 scholarships to support their college endeavors. This is part of the organization’s $14.7 million scholarship commitment – a number that continues to grow each year.

First responders are unsure what led to a residential fire that resulted in no injuries Wednesday afternoon at 208 S. Race St.Emergency agencies received a call reporting a fire at 1:04 p.m., with Lampasas Police Department units being the first to arrive on the scene two minutes later.

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened Aug. 29, with Judge Debbie Garrett presiding over the day’s hearings.Defendant Billy Joe Kirkham of Lampasas entered a plea of guilty to a charge of theft of property greater than or equal to $2,500 and less than $30,000.
