COVID-19 vaccination drive-through clinic offered in Copperas Cove

The city of Copperas Cove will host a COVID-19 vaccination drive-through clinic on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Copperas Cove High School rear parking lot, 851 West Avenue D. The vaccine will be administered only to those who made an appointment ahead of time and received a confirmation.

COVID-19 UPDATE

Lampasas County Local Health Authority Dr. Georgia Hay reported that as of Wednesday, the county had 148 active cases of COVID-19 and nine hospitalizations. As of Wednesday, the county had recorded 20 fatalities due to COVID-19, the health authority reported.

BURN BAN

A county burn ban was in effect at press time Thursday morning. The ban applies outside Lampasas, Kempner and Lometa city limits. The county order prohibits many types of outdoor fires -- including open campfires, as well as brush fires that do not meet specific conditions.

Jobless rate drops at year’s end

Texas’ December unemployment rate dropped to 7.1% (not seasonally adjusted), down from 8% in November 2020. Figures were released Jan. 22. Lampasas County and statewide jobless figures have fluctuated since August. The national rate in December was 6.7% -- no change from November.

TxDOT contracts for restriping at various sites in, around Lampasas

The Texas Department of Transportation is contracting for pavement markings to be restriped, roughly halfway between sealcoat cycles. TxDOT’s goal is to sealcoat roads every seven years.

Kempner council selects city manager

The Kempner City Council voted last week to name David C. Williams II city manager. The position is new to Kempner and results from voters’ approval of a ballot measure in November. Williams will be responsible for Kempner’s administrative matters and will oversee the police department.
