County officials halt JPs, constable redistricting plan

In a packed room Monday morning, the Lampasas County Commissioners Court turned down the idea of redrawing constable and justice of the peace precincts. This action follows the decision last week to realign the county commissioners’ precincts. That new map is to take effect in 2022.

Lampasas County 27th District Court dismissed an arson case after the accused was found to have been incompetent at the time of the offense. After a Nov. 12 hearing, the court dismissed the felony case against Michael Paul Dunlap of Kempner, for reasons of insanity.

The Lampasas Farmers & Craft Market will be open on the downtown courthouse square from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays through December. The market draws sizable crowds on the weekend and has become a popular place for buying and selling homeproduced or hand-crafted items.

The report from the Nov. 17 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 912, compared to 781 last sale and 864 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers were $3-$5 lower; heifers were steady. Slaughter cows and slaughter bulls were $2-$4 lower.

After receiving word of an increase on a bid to renovate county offices, the Lampasas County Commissioners Court went back to the drawing board Monday during its regular meeting. Some county officials spoke to the Commissioners Court on Nov. 8 about repairs needed in their respective offices.
