Two events slated in December to benefit area children

’Tis the season of giving, and Lampasas County residents will have several opportunities to benefit area children. The first event – a tri-county toy run – is slated for Sunday.

Saturday’s lighted Christmas parade is scheduled to begin winding its way to downtown Lampasas at 6:30 p.m. Staging will take place on Western Avenue behind the old middle school campus. Decorated floats, cars, trucks, bicycles and anything with wheels is allowed to participate.

Teen arrested after alleged hit-and-run collision

A 17-year-old was in police custody Monday after authorities alleged he fled a scene of a crash last week. On Wednesday, the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office was called to a hit-and-run crash inside Lampasas city limits and was informed that a white GMC Sierra left the scene.

Gas price highest in eight years, AAA rep says

The statewide average gas price is $3 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the Nov. 23 report from the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is five cents less than it was the previous week and $1.21 more per gallon compared to the same day last year.

Kempner honors residents, businesses with Impression Awards

Kempner residents and local businesses who give back to the community will be awarded by city officials, starting this year. Each November and December, Kempner city officials will present Impression Awards to those who continue to do well in serving the community. During its Nov.

Annual Carol of Lights festival kicks off Saturday

Vision Lampasas’ annual Carol of Lights celebration is scheduled for Saturday, with events from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the courthouse square. The Holidazzle Lighted Christmas Parade will start at 6:30 p.m. in the downtown area. It is sponsored by Ajinomoto Foods.

POINSETTIA FUNDRAISER

The Lampasas Lions Club will offer its Poinsettia Fundraiser again this year. Poinsettias are available in red and pink at $15 each. The Lions Club provides vision exams and glasses for children and adults throughout Lampasas County.

FIRE DEPARTMENT TOY DRIVE

The Lampasas Fire Department is preparing for its annual Firefighters’ Christmas for the Needy. The department is accepting donations of money, new toys and new bikes at the fire station, located at 1107 East Fourth St. Toy donations will be accepted through Dec. 14.
