Lometa youth livestock show set Saturday

The Lometa FFA Livestock Show is set for Saturday. It will take place at its familiar venue, the Lometa ISD show barn, next to the football field. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the show at 9 a.m. The show is for Lampasas and surrounding counties.

Kempner Fire Department put on a display for the annual Tri-County Toy Run in Lampasas on Sunday. The fire truck was one of close to 1,000 vehicles that made the trek from Temple to Lampasas. Read more about the annual event and how it benefits Central Texas and Hill Country youth on page 12.

While Merritt Romans doesn’t recall details about Pearl Harbor, the attack on the U.S. naval base changed the course of his life. Drafted into the U.S. Army at 18, the Lampasas resident was in one of the first units deployed to the South Pacific to fight the Japanese.

Lampasas Public Library on Tuesday taught children about solutions and colloids in a STEM-based event. STEM programs offer instruction in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Since the boom of the Citizens Band radio in the 1970s, some residents will remember the experience of talking on the CB radio while driving down the highway, or listening to truckers give “smokey reports” to let other drivers know how they could avoid speed traps at the given mile marker.
