FOOD PANTRY St. Mary Catholic Church’s food pantry ministry will hold its monthly drive-through food distribution on March 25 from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Come to the church parking lot at 701 N. Key in Lampasas, and volunteers will load the groceries.

Refurbished tombstone rededicated

Briggs to host upcoming events

Several events are on the calendar for Briggs Community Center. On March 14, an “Eat & Meet” gathering is planned at 6 p.m. Area residents are invited to bring a dish to share and come meet the neighbors. Briggs Market Days will get started March 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Browning Garden Club to celebrate its birthday

The Browning Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the building behind the Kempner Fire Department on Pecan Street. The club will have a belated 40th birthday celebration with a potluck luncheon.

Legacy of Albertus Sweet

EDITOR’S NOTE: The broken tombstone of former Lampasas County Sheriff Albertus Sweet was rededicated March 7 in Oak Hill Cemetery by members of the Wild West History Association, which coordinated its repair and helped pay for refurbishment of the monument.

Kempner hazardous disposal event deemed success

Cars lined up around the Kempner City Hall on Feb. 26 for its inaugural hazardous waste collection event. The hazardous disposal was held in conjunction with the Central Texas Council of Government’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee.

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27 th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Joshua Morgan Dupree of Conrad, Montana did not answer when called for his pretrial hearing on a charge of possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram.

USDA offers special watershed funding for Lampasas County landowners

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service has announced funding opportunities through the National Water Quality Initiative for farmers, ranchers and landowners interested in implementing conservation practices on their property in two high-priority watersheds in Texas.
