Bass sexual assault case delayed after legal counsel withdraws

A hearing was reset for a man accused in a Lampasas sexual assault case after conflicts arose between the defendant and his defense attorney. A pretrial hearing will be held May 20 for Ryan Nelson Bass, 41, after a change in representation, Lampasas District Attorney John Greenwood said.

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27 th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Billy Joe Kirkham of Lampasas had adjudication hearings, at which he entered a plea of true to a charge of stalking and to a charge of burglary of a building.

The following arrests were reported to the Lampasas Dispatch Record by area law enforcement officials. The Dispatch Record prints the name and charge(s) of people arrested on at least one Class B misdemeanor – or more serious – charge.

No injuries reported from plane crash

A small, single-engine plane crashed Wednesday afternoon as it was attempting to take off at Lampasas Municipal Airport. This marks the second plane crash within the county this year. The pilot was uninjured.

CORRECTION

The headline on a March 29 story about a jury announcement for John Carl Phillips incorrectly stated the charge against the defendant. Phillips is charged with a charge of aggravated assault on a date/family/household member with a weapon.

Kempner to allow alcohol at Sylvia Tucker Memorial Park for certain events

A unanimous vote by the Kempner City Council will allow residents to have alcohol at Sylvia Tucker Memorial Park — but there is a catch. The amended ordinance is only for city-sponsored events such as Kempner-Fest.
