The Lometa City Council met for a budget workshop Tuesday, with the goal of balancing its budget for the city, as well as finalizing a tax rate for the 2022-2023 fiscal year. City Secretary Lindsey Grant presented council members with a proposed tax levy of $0.

After a brief rain shower last week, this Muscovy duck took advantage of the damp grass at W.M. Brook Park. The National Weather Service predicted a 50% chance of rain for Thursday, a 40% chance today and possibly more rain early next week.

Texas nursing board approves shorter CTC LVN program

  Central Texas College recently received approval from the Texas Board of Nursing for a curriculum change that will allow licensed vocational nursing students to complete the program in nine months rather than the current 12 months.

Beto O’Rourke is visiting Lampasas tomorrow as a part of his 49-day campaign across Texas this summer.  O’Rourke has planned to visit over 65 counties as part of his “Drive for Texas” campaign, which covers over 5,600 miles of land in the state. The town hall will take place at 12:30 p.m.

Christian academy opens for first school year

Providence Christian Academy of Lampasas welcomed its initial set of students Aug. 11 for the first day of classes at the new school. Head of Schools April Dwamena was on hand to greet students, and parents and staff helped students find their classrooms.

After a another hotweather weekend for Lampasas County, the National Weather Service sees rain chances for the area later this week. So far in 2022, the county has received just under seven-and-a-half inches of rain. Today is expected to be sunny and hot, with a high near 100.

The Lampasas Independent School District received high marks in the 2021 Texas Education Agency’s academic accountability ratings. Superintendent Dr. Chane Rascoe said the report was released Friday morning.
