Wintry weather leads to school, office closures

Freezing temperatures and icy road conditions led to school and office closures across the county this week. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning that lasted from Tuesday at 6 a.m. to Thursday at 9 a.m., including two extensions during that time frame.

DAEP launches drug awareness program

New drug awareness programs are being instituted at Lampasas Independent School District’s Disciplinary Alternative Education Program. The goal of the drug programs is to help tackle the ongoing increase in students participating in THC-vaping.

KVFD seeks donations for annual auction fundraiser

The Kempner Volunteer Fire Department is seeking donations for its annual BBQ Fundraiser in April. Lt. Todd Burkett, spokesperson for KVFD, said the department has begun to collect donations of items for auction as well as monetary donations for barbecue meats.

Water screening, analysis offered for private well owners

The Texas Well Owner Network is offering a free, water well screening in February. Water samples will be screened for contaminants, including total coliform bacteria, E. coli, nitrate-nitrogen and salinity.

Few candidates file for positions on ballot

The filing period for the May 6 general election is nearing the midway point. Filing for all municipal and school board positions will be offered until Feb. 17.

Winter storm warning issued

Lampasas is under a winter storm warning until Wednesday morning, regional meteorologists said. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning and a hazardous weather outlook for Lampasas, Coryell, Bell and surrounding counties, effective from 6 a.m. Monday morning until 6 a.m.
