Bridge group sets next play date

The Community Bridge group met Jan. 9 in the fellowship hall at First Presbyterian Church, with four tables of players. Michelle Brown took first prize, Margaret Oberender was second, and Nell Lane third. Linda Williams and Michelle Brown won the slam prize. The next play date will be Feb. 13.

Seminar focuses on growing fruit trees in Lampasas County

A retired Extension agent provided tree planting tips during a Fruit Tree Workshop hosted recently by Texas A&M Agrilife Extension. Wade Hibler, a retired county Extension agent from Burnet County, covered topics related to successfully establishing fruit trees in Lampasas County.

Heat lamp cited as cause of house fire

Lampasas Fire Department officials have attributed an early-morning house fire that displaced a local family to a malfunction in a heating lamp. Lampasas Fire Marshal J.P. Harris said the fire that consumed a residence on West Avenue E began in the early hours on Monday.

Fertilizer meeting date now Feb. 7 after icy weather forces change

A presentation by Wilbur-Ellis Company on fertilizer and herbicides will take place Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Lampasas Farm Bureau office, 1793 U.S. Highway 281 North. A 6 p.m. taco buffet dinner will be offered, followed by the presentation on fertilizer and herbicide product updates.

Lometa ISD receives positive audit report for last year

Lometa Independent School District’s audit report was presented to trustees last week, with a clean bill of health being given to the district’s finances. Superintendent Rob Moore said he was pleased with the report and noted the district is doing well. “There were no surprises,” he said.
