Baxter family honored for conservation efforts

The TSSWCB & ATSWCD, sponsors of the Conservation Awards Program, have named the 1894 Baxter Ranch to receive the Area 5 Conservation Rancher Award.The ranch is a cooperator with the Hill Country Soil and Water Conservation District #534 and the local Natural Resources Conservation Service office.

Lometa students selected for Boys State, Girls State

American Legion Post 116 of Lometa and its auxiliary has announced its selections for Texas Boys State and Girls State for 2026.Juniors Wyatt Potts and Bryson Anastasi will attend Boys State at the University of Texas campus in Austin from June 7-12.

The Oran Milo Roberts Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas met May 4 at the Hostess House.Vice President Jan Vann introduced Lampasas Middle School seventhgrade Texas history teacher, James Best. He has taught in Lampasas ISD for 25 years and for a total of 45 years overall.

Museum to host program honoring Purple Heart awardees

The Lampasas County Museum Foundation is honoring all Lampasas County Purple Heart awardees this Memorial Day with a short program and roundtable discussion on May 23 at 2 p.m.Awardees are asked to stop by the museum at 303 S. Western St. in Lampasas any Friday or Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Each year on the last Friday of May, the American Legion Auxiliary units throughout the U.S provide red poppies to wear to honor the fallen soldiers who have given their lives during battle.This ritual began at the end of World War I.
