Evelyne Wallace of Lampasas died at her residence on Feb. 22, 2022. She had just celebrated her 99th birthday the day before.
She was born to R.J. and Nellie Carr on Feb. 21, 1923, in Liberal, Kansas. Her youth was spent mainly in Missouri.
Evelyne settled in Texas in 1984. She had been a bookkeeper for Sherwin-Williams in Springfield, Missouri for 27 years and owned and operated her own daycare facility in Refugio, Texas.
For the last part of her working career, she owned and operated a bookkeeping and tax consulting service.
She loved to paint, play dominoes and scrabble, and bake.
She was known for her pies, jams, jellies and especially her apple butter.
Evelyne was preceded in death by three sons, Franklin, Billy and Carl Downing; one daughter, Patti Davis; and one great-grandchild, David Downing, and siblings Ernest Carr, Lloyd, Carr, Velma Piwetz, Mildred Kline, Robert Carr, Raymond Carr and Howard Carr.
She also is survived by one sister, Marie Hart of Iowa; seven grandchildren, Steven Davis and wife Keli, Timothy Davis, Larry Davis and wife Lisa, Todd Downing and wife Tarah, Troy Downing, Tracy Meyers and husband Dave, and Evelyn Downing; one son-in-law, Larry Davis; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
A service will be held for Evelyne from 4-6 p.m. on March 4 at Heritage Funeral Home in Lampasas.
