Shirley Claire Covington, 86, of Dallas died at her residence on Jan. 26, 2021 after a difficult battle with pancreatic cancer.
Shirley was born on March 24, 1934 in Texarkana to Edward J. and Ruby Vivian (Hanson) Wright.
She was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, where she volunteered regularly.
Shirley was an assistant manager for many years at Preston Luggage and Gifts in Dallas. Prior to this, she had been a stay-at-home mom while raising her two daughters. She enjoyed working with the public.
She was a seamstress and enjoyed knitting, crochet, arts and crafts, and square dancing. She loved working crossword puzzles and playing games. She was always ready for a game of Scrabble and usually won.
She loved to spend time with her family, camping and fishing and being outdoors. She traveled overseas several times. She loved to cook and bake. Shirley also was an animal lover.
Mrs. Covington is survived by two daughters, Jan Ellen Honeycutt and husband Gary of Dallas, and Sally Sue Bozeman of Lampasas; one granddaughter, Nan Brice Bozeman of Austin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
There will be a private family committal service for Shirley at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Texarkana. Heritage Funeral Home of Lampasas has charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations are requested to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
