Bobby Joe Smith, 80, of Lampasas, died on Jan. 30, 2022 in Temple.
Services will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel on Feb. 5 at 2 p.m., with visitation an hour prior.
Bobby Joe was born on Jan. 7, 1942 in Palestine to T.A. and Kay Smith.
He was a true cowboy who loved team roping, riding and his horses. In 1998, he was the champion header in the Carl Freeman Memorial.
He served his country in the U.S. Army and retired after many years of service. He spent his career after the military as a truck driver. He worked construction on Fort Hood and was self-employed for a time as a dump truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Jack Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Smith; daughters Lacye Slagle and husband Wade, Lisa Polidoro, and Sherry Vann and husband Kim; a sister, Carolyn Jeffus and husband Bob; 12 grandchildren; and 19 greatgrandchildren.
