Longtime Rockdale resident Dorothy Mae Bergeron, 94, returned to her heavenly home Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Lampasas.

Funeral services, provided by Phillips & Luckey in Rockdale, were scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2021, at a graveside service and burial at I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Pastor Don Patterson officiating.

Mrs. Bergeron was born on November 4, 1926, in Angleton, to Henry Earle and Ina (Perry) Middleton. She lived in Angleton throughout her youth and graduated from Angleton High School in 1944 and business school a year later. After working for a year as a secretary at Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, she met Fred Bergeron on a blind date, and they married on January 24, 1948, at the home of her parents in Angleton.

Dorothy and Fred began their 69-year marriage in Austin while Fred finished his degree at the University of Texas. They settled in Point Comfort as Fred began his career with ALCOA and later lived in Maryville, Tennessee, Massena, New York, and eventually settled in Rockdale where they lived for 45 years. The people of Rockdale held a special place in Dorothy’s heart, and she cherished their friendships. In 2016, Dorothy and Fred moved to Round Rock due to ongoing health concerns.

Dorothy loved bridge, socializing, spending time with family, doting on grandchildren, gardening, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. While living in Rockdale, Dorothy was a member of several bridge clubs, loved entertaining in her home, was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, and was an active member of the Thursday Reading Club from 1982 – 2016.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred Bergeron; her parents, Henry Earle and Ina Middleton; sisters, Ruby Cook and Velma Bloomfield; brothers-in-law, Bob Miles and Richard Bloomfield.

Survivors are her sister, Earlene Miles of West Columbia; brother-in-law, Roy Cook of Angleton; daughters, Pam Morgan (Carl) of Thomasville, Georgia, Paula Formby (Lester) of Lampasas, Karen Timmerman (Robert) of Georgetown; her grandchildren, Paul Morgan (Christina), Brian Timmerman (Kristal), Lindsay Altman (Daniel), Eric Timmerman (Lori), Ashley Crane (Matthew); step-grandchildren, DeWayne Formby and DeAnne Formby Hart; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy’s family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. Tim Robins for his compassionate medical care over a 30-year period of time, and to Robin Cosgrove and Michele Henslin for their steadfast support and care for Dorothy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 168, Rockdale, Texas 76567.
