Janna Kaye Burkes Gibson, 74, died on March 12, 2021 at her home in Lampasas after a prolonged illness.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. March 27 at Sneed Funeral Chapel.

Janna was born on Jan. 2, 1947 in Lampasas to Neva Bradley Burkes and Clyde Burkes. She grew up in and around Lampasas, spending her adolescence in east Lampasas County near the Lampasas River, northeast of Rumley with her parents, Neva and Eugene “Snooks” Stiles. Together, they attended Broad Street Church of Christ.

Janna attended school in Lampasas and after high school, she finished beauty school in Killeen before beginning her career in the telephone industry.

She worked as an operator for Mid-Tex Telephone Company in Killeen, Southwestern Bell in Dallas, and retired in 2002 from General Telephone in Irving, as an account supervisor.

Soon after retirement, she and her sons moved to Copperas Cove to care for her stepfather. After his death, Janna bought a home in Lampasas where she lived.

During the years immediately following her return to Lampasas, she enjoyed spending time with her sons and their friends. At “Friendsgiving Gatherings” during those years, Janna would bring her baked beans which quickly became a tradition.

Janna loved Jesus. She enjoyed relaxing at home, spending time with her sons, visits from young children, watching television and her little dog Pattuni. She had a caring, colorful, outgoing personality.

Janna was preceded in death by her mother, Neva Bradley Stiles; her stepfather, Eugene Stiles; her father, Clyde Burkes; sister, Ray Nell Land; and brother, C.W. Burkes.

She is survived by her sons David Coy Laffoon and William Lee Largent; two half-sisters; a sister-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
