Bessie Carolyne H. Norred, 81, died Feb. 26, 2021 at Autumn Grove Cottage in Katy.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. March 6 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas, with Dr. Rick Willis officiating.

Carolyne was born on Dec. 22, 1939 in Meridian, Mississippi to Otis and Irene Hodgins Hodges. She grew up in Lubbock, Texas, and relocated to Pasadena, Texas in 1967.

After raising her children, Carolyne fulfilled her longtime dream of becoming a nurse and worked on the medical-surgical and psychiatric units for several years.

She retired from nursing to join her husband, Wylie, on the pipeline. They traveled the country for many years together and were well-known by pipeliners across the nation.

Carolyne married Wylie Norred in 1981 in Clear Lake City, and they were married for 34 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lampasas. Carolyne enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and cooking. Her family loved to gather in her home for home-cooked meals.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Hodges, and her husband.

Survivors include daughters Susan Vidrine and significant other Russell Stanley, and Mitzi Hernandez and husband Hank; sons Don Key and wife Cindy, and Jimmy Cross and wife Sharon; sisters Gale Robinson, Frosty Eslinger and Pat Drake; brothers Bud Hodges and Wayne Hodges; grandchildren Brittany Lucas and husband Peter, Mason Hernandez and wife Chelsey, Madeline Skelton and husband Chris, Jonathan Key, Levi Cross and wife Lacie, and Jacob Cross; and greatgrandchildren Jackson Cross, Jason Cross, Brody Cross, Everett Cross, Jameson Lucas, Avery Lucas, Kaytlyn Lucas and Isabelle Skelton.
