New state legislation in effect as of Sept. 1

The 88th Texas Legislature passed 774 laws that went into effect on Friday. These new laws cover everything from health care and law enforcement assistance to social issues. Each year, Sept. 1 is the standard start day for laws passed during the regular legislative session.

TAX, BUDGET HEARINGS Several entities have yet to finalize their property tax rates and budgets for the new fiscal year. Lampasas County officials will offer a public hearing on the new budget and tax rate Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the county annex building, 409 S. Pecan St. in Lampasas.

Heat advisory extends to Wednesday night

A heat advisory has been issued for Lampasas County for the next two days.  At 1:18 a.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory, effective from noon Tuesday to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Heat values of up to 109 degrees are expected.

Scout troops to host ‘Mom Prom’

Perhaps readers have heard of a Daddy-Daughter dance. As a twist on this event, Lampasas Girl Scout Troops 20001 and 20023 are hosting an ’80s Mom Prom. The event allows mothers to bring their children for a fun dance event. Participants are encouraged to wear their best 1980s-style attire.

Vision Lampasas gets ready for annual Indian Artifact Show

Lampasas residents will have the opportunity later this month to see some historic Indian artifacts and relics when Vision Lampasas hosts its Indian Artifact & Mineral and Gem Show. The show will be held at the old Lampasas Middle School cafeteria Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Four-day school week starts well in Lometa

Lometa Independent School District’s new four-day instructional week already has been making waves. Teachers, students and administrators have made it known that the new schedule format, while bringing its own challenges, has been beneficial so far.
