KWSC pumps slow due to muddy water

The Kempner Water Supply Corp. announced to its members Friday that muddy water has made it difficult to produce water along its Stillhouse Hollow Lake plant. The turbidity caused by the recent rainfall will take some time to clear up.

JURY DUTY CANCELED Jury duty Nov. 2 for Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Dan Hause in Kempner has been canceled. Early voting in the Constitutional Amendment Election continues through Friday. Fourteen propositions are on the ballot.

‘A violent summer’

The summer of 2023 in Lampasas County saw a spike in violent crime, and some authorities have attributed it to the oppressive heat. “It’s been a violent summer,” Lampasas District Attorney John Greenwood said. “We have a murder on average every two years, and we had two this summer.

Icy conditions could arise on Tuesday

The National Weather Service issued a freeze watch at 11:33 a.m. this morning for Lampasas County.  The NWS says sub-freezing temperatures may arise late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

Winery earns top award

Texas Legato Winery, owned by Bill and Sulynn Bledsoe of Lampasas, received the 2023 Grand Star Medal for its Non-Vintage Sojourn port-styled wine. The grape is a 2023 Washington Syrah made on site, Bledsoe said.

Bridge players take home prizes

Christine Vann was the first-place winner at the October Community Bridge afternoon. Jim Hutchinson was second, and Linda Williams took home thirdplace honors. Lou Wiginton won the door prize. No one won the slam prize. The next scheduled bridge play date is Nov. 13 at 1 p.m.
