Sales tax receipts climb, statistics show

The Texas Comptroller’s Office has released statistics about the February sales tax allocations to local jurisdictions, showing that their payments continue to grow. The February checks are based on sales made in December that were reported in January by businesses that file monthly with the state, and fourth-quarter sales by those that file their taxes quarterly.

Voting commences for primary elections

The early-voting period opened Monday for the Democratic Party Primary Election and the Republican Party Primary Election. Balloting for both political parties takes place weekdays from 8 a.m.

Winter Storm Uri: one year later

A year after the devastating freeze that resulted from Winter Storm Uri, the city of Lampasas and the county still are seeing the financial aftereffects. The storm plunged much of the state into subfreezing temperatures for 10 days, which exhausted the electrical infrastructure and caused massive power and water outages.
