Scouts stay aboard USS Lexington

A group of 56 Lampasas County parents, leaders and Scouts from Troop 200, Troop 400 and Pack 100 were among the 320 people to stay aboard the USS Lexington on a recent February weekend. The Scouts slept in bunks similar to what sailors would have stayed in when the ship was active. Tours on board showed the youth how the ship operated. Student earns money in calf scramble

Jonathan Harris, son of Jon-Paul and Jennifer Harris of Lampasas, took second in the calf scramble competition Feb. 19 at the San Antonio Rodeo. He earned a $1,400 scramble certificate, which Harris plans to use to buy a registered breeding goat to exhibit at the 2023 Lampasas County Youth Livestock Show and the 2023 San Antonio Stock Show. Sculpture unveiled at library

Shown with the library’s new “Echoes” sculpture, commissioned in memory of the late Henry V. Campbell Jr. and his wife, Amy Weichsel Campbell, are the Campbells’ great-grandchildren: Banner Glenewinkel, holding Philip Barklage, and Schafer Glenewinkel, standing next to the life-sized depiction of herself and Amy. DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27 th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Quincell Dante Rahmings of Temple entered pleas of guilty and was found guilty of two charges: escape while arrested/confinedfelony and evading arrest/ detention with a vehicle.

Kline Whitis Elementary hosts Family Night

Students and their parents joined Kline Whitis Elementary School teachers and staff for Family Night on Monday. There was a short skit on the life of Pecos Bill, and refreshments such as ice cream were served. Elementary campuses throughout the district hold such events every school year. VERONICA BUTLER
