‘The Stars At Night’ celebration set for Saturday, rain or shine

Lometa One-Act Play ready to head torward competition next week

The Lometa High School One-Act Play begins its march toward the state contest once again, with Monday’s district competition being the starting point.

Young volunteers recognized

Lorelai Dressell and Abigail Justice, members of Lampasas Girl Scout Troop 6005, were awarded the Misti Talbert Community Champion Award for their volunteer work at the Lampasas Animal Shelter. The girls accumulated 800 hours of volunteer work in 2023.

Austin man arrested on felony drug charges

An Austin man was arrested Saturday by a Lampasas County highway patrol officer on felony drug charges. David Jerome Pernell was taken into custody by Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Lorenzo Maldonado on Feb. 24 during a routine traffic stop.

Driver injured in deer-related wreck

A Lampasas man was hospitalized last week after a single-vehicle wreck that involved gravel on the roadway and a deer crossing the street. Lampasas police officials said at 12:40 p.m. Feb. 18, officers responded to a report of a wreck in the 300 block of Sunrise Hills. Patrol Lt.

Fire destroys two RVs near residence

A structure fire on Private Road 3072 during the early-morning hours Monday resulted in the loss of two recreational vehicles, a pick-up truck and an enclosed equipment trailer. Lampasas Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Weinrich said no residents were injured during the fire.

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened Feb. 16, with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Austin Cody Kemp of Lampasas pleaded guilty to a charge of assault on a family/ household member with a previous conviction.

Tax prep offered

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide will provide free tax preparation services for the 2023 tax year, beginning Feb. 5 at the Jack Calvert Municipal Building, 302 E. Third St. in Lampasas. Hours are Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To schedule an appointment, email lampasastaxaide @gmail.com.
