May flooding wreaks havoc on residents, water suppliers

Extreme drought conditions were put on pause in 2024 after flooding on May 5 that devastated some Lampasas County properties.Impacts of the flooding were felt into the fall after water suppliers struggled with a polluted Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Also, the Kempner Water Supply Corp.

Lampasas County Friends of the Night Sky and Vision Lampasas will host a free Telescope Clinic Jan. 4, beginning at 4:30 p.m., on a dark sky friendly property west of Lampasas on FM 580 West. Directional signage will be placed along the roadway prior to the event.

Christmas elf sits atop courthouse

Lampasas has its own version of “Elf on the Shelf,” as this lifesize Santa’s helper spreads good cheer around town. The week before Christmas, the mysterious elf was spotted at area businesses along Key Avenue and in the downtown area.

Fireworks restrictions in place

Residents are reminded that Lampasas County has restrictions on the sale and use of fireworks classified as skyrockets with sticks or fins. Those who use fireworks to help celebrate the holidays are encouraged to do so safely.

New play equipment awaits at Kline Whitis campus

Construction of a new playground at Kline Whitis Elementary School is underway. Campus administrators are optimistic the project can be completed by the time students return from the Christmas break.
