Bird flu cases confirmed in Texas

A U.S. Department of Agriculture database reveals more than 25 cases of bird flu have been reported across multiple Texas counties.Good news for Lampasas County residents: None of the incidents have been reported within Lampasas or its neighboring counties.

The following arrests were reported to the Lampasas Dispatch Record by area law enforcement officials. The Dispatch Record prints the name and charge(s) of people arrested on at least one Class B misdemeanor – or more serious – charge.JAN.

Former president Jimmy Carter dies

Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, died Sunday at the age of 100 in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. Elected to a single term in 1976, Carter was the most recent Democrat to win Lampasas County and Texas in a presidential race.

Residents and thousands of visitors from near, far and across the globe soaked in the 2024 total solar eclipse experience here on April 8.

Stock show ahead!

Call home the cattle, as the Lampasas County Youth Livestock Show is set for Jan. 8-11. It will feature a brandnew schedule and new category this year.Lampasas County Livestock Association President Jeff Rutland said the organization has added a contest for Wednesday, which is a first for the show.

Lampasas EDC director resigns

The economic development director hired in November resigned last month. Her final day with the city was Dec. 20.Mary Poche began her role as EDC Director on Nov. 8. She had worked for the city of Lampasas for exactly a month when she issued her resignation on Dec. 8.

Lampasas County Friends of the Night Sky and Vision Lampasas will host a free Telescope Clinic Saturday, beginning at 4:30 p.m., on a dark sky friendly property west of Lampasas on FM 580 West. Directional signage will be placed along the roadway prior to the event.

Last rain of the year

Runoff from Saturday’s quick-moving thunderstorm collects in a shallow pit near Kempner, as cedars reflect off the surface. Almost an inch of rain and some pea-sized hail fell across the area, although just a quarter-inch of moisture was recorded at an LCRA station west of Lampasas.

Several new laws set to take effect in Texas on Jan. 1

With the new year set to begin tomorrow, Lampasas County residents should have their eyes on several state laws that take effect in Texas on Jan. 1.Some changes include the end of safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles and privacy protections to opt out of data collection.
